Cyclone3 now uses JODConverter on front of OpenOffice.org to convert between OpenDocument (ODS, ODT), MS Office (DOC, XLS) and Portable Document Format (PDF).While strongly supporting the OpenDcoument format, this is a step towards higher interoperability and flexibility.

JODConverter is a Java wrapper for OpenOffice.org that enables automatic batch conversion of document formats. We have integrated it to Cyclone3 framework.

We have created a back-end service that manages on-demand conversion between document formats supported by OpenOffice.org. At the moment this is used in XULadmin to produce exports in non-standard formats. XULadmin is able to produce different XML formats, including OpenDocument. This is sent to the back-end service which performs conversion and retrieved again by front-end.
