2010 Summer Release and future prospects
Published 2010-07-30 in Releases by jondrusek
After some time we have released Cyclone3 for July 2010. Several functions have been added. Bugs have been fixed and lots of new features are being planned and currently worked on.
Changes
-
Drag&Drop has been improved!
You can drag documents (docbook, ODF), vCards, images, videos and other files directly to their respective listing to initiate upload
The number of open tabs is not limited by the window width.
Their behaviour is now much smarter too. The list can be scrolled backwords and forwards.
Image EXIF data is being processed upon upload
Date and time of creation for now. Importing the rest of EXIF data into image entity metadata could be the next step - useful in particular for professional and hobby photo galleries.
Listings do not scroll to nonexistent positions
This is a convenience improvement - clicking a category outside the listing should reset the paging to zero. Also there is no point in paging to exceed the amount of results.Previews embedded in listings can be closed (articles, images)
Many minor icons and labels glitches have been fixed
Video parts can be sorted by visits
What to expect in the following release?
Many things are currently being worked on. They haven't been added to the stable release yet. We choose rather not to incorporate new features unless they are really stable.
Rectangular Selecton
We are implementing rectangular selection for thubnail-mode listings for images and video. This should be faster and easier than the good old control+click way.
Upload Manager
As for current stable release we use single upload windows. These get annoying when you upload 5+ files simultaneously so it will be replaced by an upload manager. Much like the standard Download Manager in Firefox.
vCard and selective exports
Selective exports are not as reliable as we'd like them to be. These will need revision. vCard exports are almost ready - contact and user exports in this format will be possible. (imports already work)
Windows server and MS SQL as backend
Cyclone3 framework is currently able to run on Windows servers with minor issues to resolved. In a couple of weeks we are hoping to achieve a stable port using Microsoft SQL server as its database.
Polls and forms editing
We would like to incorporate forms editing into the HTML editor. Various ways to do this are being discussed now.
